Milkhouse Candle Co, Eucalyptus & Mint | Review

Today I’m sharing some thoughts on my latest candle purchase, the Eucalyptus & Mint by Milkhouse Candle Co. I’m certainly going through a candle phase right now. So much so I’m actually looking into getting candles made myself. Is making candles easy to do? Well it’s an entire science, and like everything it comes down to time. Just look at one blog called Candle Science to figure out how much reading you’ll need to do.

Brief overview on why it’s hard to make candles:

If you want to create and sell your candles, you need to develop recipes: wax type, wick type, oil%, mixing temperatures, pouring temperatures, vessel size, preheating of jar yes/no – all of this will vary per candle. Even if you just swap a fragrance, your candle might not do well at all. Or change wax. ANY variable will change the performance and safety of a candle… THAT is the hard part. – According to this Reddit thread.

What’s the story with Milkhouse Candle Co?

Milkhouse Candle Company founders, Eric and Janet Sparrow, have strong ties to agricultural America. It’s their Midwest upbringing that inspired the creation of a cleaner, healthier candle experience.

Starting off as a hobby for the couple in 2002, their candle making began in canning jars bought at local auctions. They shared their creations with friends, family, and co-workers, and suddenly they started getting more requests for candles.

The Hype:

100% all natural soy wax infused with beeswax certified paraffin free.

The Bottle:

I like the bottle and the hanging handle. Gives it a very Elizabethan feel. As if I’m going to carry this candle from room to room like they did during the blackouts of the Blitz era. Milkhouse Candle Co have completely changed their labelling since this release. I think I prefer this one.

Any good?

I’m a guy and I don’t care for flowery scents. But I do enjoy mint in all varieties. Chocolate mainly. This has a very calming aroma that I enjoy smelling when I am feeling a a bit anxious. The smell has a soothing quality and it can fill up the living room in no time at all. The clean burn is a huge plus, no soot or smoke in sight.

Top tip for candle lovers:

Don’t light it with a match and then stick the match in the jar to burn along with the candle. It interferes greatly with the quality of the burn and creates a bit of a fire hazard towards the end.

Final thoughts:

In truth I was hoping for a bit more from the Eucalyptus. The mint was also a bit toothpaste-y, and not the fresh and clean scent that, akin to a brand new launderette, that I was hoping for. I wonder if this was a mis-fire from the brand and they have discontinued this one because I’ve not seen it on their website anywhere.
